From the pen of Helen Eriksson... Dear Readers, Welcome to the second half of the year, 2008. Each year the time seems to race ahead even more quickly than the last. It's almost scary! I've been very busy preparing for my trip to America, lots of embroidery, lots of writing up directions and drawing illustrations, it's a task in itself! Well, here I am, counting down the days now, before I fly out of Adelaide, heading for LA airport. It's very wintery here at the moment, so a bit of California sunshine, will be good for the soul! If you haven't looked yet, at the classes I'll be teaching, check it out and book in, as the classes are filling up. I 'll be teaching at Piecemaker's, who invite me there every year. It's so lovely catching up with all the friends I've made whilst teaching in America. The class schedule is listed below, so please book your place in the class and I'll look forward to catching up on all the comings and goings of the last year! Piecemaker's have organised a special day on July 5th, from 10.00a.m. to 3.00 p.m. where you will be served a fantastic lunch. I'm scheduled to teach at COUNTRY BUMPKIN this year, for the Master classes. Bookings are available now, so check these dates, so you can book your seat! The last lot of classes were very successful, lots of fun, so come along to this next workshop. The class project is: PETITE SPRING SAMPLER Mon Sep 15th (9:30 - 3:30), Tue Sep 16th (9:30 - 3:30). This sweet little black cushion, has nine squares, each square has a diferent design embroidered within it. Some of the flowers include Daffodils, Irises, Violets, Snow Drops, Forget me nots, plus three different tecniques used for the three different roses featured. The full kit can be purchased on the day, from myself. The kit includes all requirements, with instructions, illustrations and coloured photo's, plus each design has been seperatley packed and marked, for easy reference. Students need only bring their personal embroidery needs, e.g. scissors, hoop, etc. Plus I suggests you bring a hand towel, and pillowcase to work on, or something similar, to avoid your work slipping. Another notable event, is Country Bumpkin's big extravaganza "BEATING AROUND THE BUSH" which is being held in October 4th - 9th 2009. Keep watching for all the information that will be advertised soon, with all the class details, plus an extensive list of talented tutors, some from overseas, to be gracing this event! Contact COUNTRY BUMPKIN to make a booking at 315 Unley Road, Malvern, South Australia, Phone (08) 8372 7676, Fax (08) 8372 7601, Email cbretail@countrybumpkin.com.au I'll look forward to seeing you all! I just want to mention to all of you embroidery enthusiasts, if you're looking for a particular thread or ribbon, please send me an email, stating your requirements. I carry a huge stock of Kacoonda Ribbons, 13mm, 7mm, 4mm, in wonderful colours, plus their threads, Hi twist, Medium and Fine. I also have a large array of Colour Streams Ribbons, 13mm, 7mm 4mm, plus the matching coloured threads, which come in 4 different thicknesses. Aurora, (very thick) Exotic Lights( thick) Ophir (twisted thread) lastly, Silken Strands(very fine). I must say, this is my favourite, as I use it for most projects, the beauty being, that you can use one strand for very fine work, or up to six strands, which makes it very versatile. Particularly for the silk prints, when embroidering the ladies or cottages. I find Kacoonda and Colour Streams, compliment each other, (even though they are from different companies) as the Kacoonda colours are more dusky, whilst the Colour Streams are more clear colours. Since teaching in the states, I have been promoting these two companies, as we are very lucky in Australia to have them available to us. For all of the projects in my book "Ribbon Renaissance, Artistry in Silk" I carry all of the products, unless they have been discontinued, in which case I will substitute for the best match. If you want to order a few ribbons and threads, instead of the full kit, send me an email, phone or fax, or order in the post! I realise some people are not familiar with the computer. Besides the Mokuba Ribbons I carry, I also have the vases in stock.e.g. the vase for the "Renaissance Vase of Flowers" the "Daffodil Jug" plus many more designs. Judith and Kathryn, silk prints, plus hand dyed laces and their "Bread Dough Vases" and Beads. The YLI Silk Ribbons, come in all widths, the main widths being 4mm and 7mm. I have a very extensive range of 13mm, 7mm, 4mm, 2mm, plus a few colours in the 32mm. Let's not forget the beautiful "Hanah Ribbons" too many colours to mention, if you find a project using these ribbons, contact me, I'm sure to have it in stock. Always quote the width of the ribbon, besides the colour and brand, I carry the 11/2", 1", 5/8", 7/16". If you have a passion for wool embroidery, I have in stock "PaternaWool" 100% Persian Wool, Kirra Wool Mohair/wool, Appletons 2 ply, (very fine), used for thread painting, etc. Plus top quality cream blanketing, 100% Australian wool and Dr's Flannel, cut into different size blankets, e.g. cot , prams and capsules. Alternately, you can buy it by the meter, or specify the size you require. Some of the other items I have in stock, are Braids, Beads, Tassels, Books, Materials, Brazillian Threads, Needles, Half Dolls, (plus pkts of beads to knit dresses for them), numerous other embellishes, not to mention my kits (view on the web) Anyone visitng Adelaide, plus the local ladies, just give me a phone call to arrange a time to visit, I would love to see you. If you want to join in the class when visiting, once again give me a call. Hope you are all well and stitching madly! There is nothing I enjoy more, than to sit in my lovely embroidery room, stitching away, at my own projects, whilst listening to my music, or watching a movie whilst embroidering! Hope you can do the same! Until next time HAPPY STITCHING Kind regards Helen Eriksson Manager Helen Eriksson Creative Embroidery 26 June 2008 |
